Carol M. White Physical Education Grant was received by Pryor Public Schools on September 29, 2011. The grant will be rewarded over a 3 year span. It is funded by the Federal Government and has been funded throught 2012 at the present time. The first year funding is $389,000.
The grant will be used to add equipment training for teachers, more P.E. classes on the junior high and high school level, more health education and added fresh fruits and vegetables to our cafeteria. Our focus will be on a fitness Room at the junior high gym. This will be ready to use in the August 2012 school year.
This is a great opportunity for us all to add and sustain a very well-rounded health and physical education program for our students and the future.
We have to record data on pedometers for K-4 grade for 4 days straight and 5th-12th grade for 7 days. Your kids will be bringing home notes on Wednesday January 4th to sign and return by Friday January 6th to be able to check out a pedometer. We have the pedometer note and permission slip on our website if you need an extra copy.
Also on our website are instructions on how to take care of our pedometers. The data will simply be used to chart improvements from pedometers each month. The students will be tested one time monthly so please pay attention to the testing time helping remove them at night and putting them back on in the morning. They will be read in the morning at school and then cleared to start over each day. If you have questions you can contact Laura Holloway at 918-825-1255. Our students are also taking surveys in computer classes on fruits and vegetables and also activity logs.
This is a great opportunity for a family to do together. Wear a pedometer for the days your students are wearing them and also chart your activity for 3 days straight and keep a food journal on fruits and vegetables. Get healthy together.
Also Cherokee Nation has picked Pryor Public Schools to Pilot Chef on the Move. A program designed to bring Chefs in our schools to help educate our kids on the value of nutrition. Chefs will be available to use in our cafeterias in any way that our cafeteria staff can utilize them. Also bringing opportunities to our parents and students who would like to take cooking classes. You will be seeing more information in the future for these opportunities. Please check our Health and Wellness website.
